Weeds

Giant Ragweed

Giant Ragweed is an amazing weed. It germinates in the early spring (and any other time there’s enough moisture and open soil), grows prolifically, maxing out at about 8 feet tall. If you mow it or cut it, two stems will arise where there had been only one, and if you cut it again, four, etc. If you pull it out by its roots and lay it on the ground, the stems will root, and it will again grow like crazy.

Sheep absolutely love it at all stages of its growth. Also, honeybees go nuts over it when it’s blooming.

I’m on a mission to eradicate it in my gardens, and pull it up whenever I stop whatever else I’m doing, but it will be a never ending job. It does shade out other weeds and produce a lot of biomass.
